Minister States MoD Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense minister has stated that the MoD is actively examining the potential security risks posed by Chinese-made vehicles, and staff have been instructed to avoid talking about classified information in any vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss secret information while travelling in China-made cars.

The minister explained that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but noted that safety is a concern in all contemporary cars.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any car, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using every Chinese vehicles, the minister replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

The revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship has been directing laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security situation highlights the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in all areas of government operations, from vehicle usage to discussions habits.
